ANGEL BISCUITS

This Thanksgiving I tried making biscuits for the first time, from a recipe I received from an old friend.  It was an enormous hit, so I'd like to share it with you.

Ingredients:

5 cups flour

3 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

½ cup sugar

1 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes

1 envelope dry yeast

2 tbsp warm water

2 cups buttermilk

Mix the yeast, warm water, 1 tsp sugar and let rise for 10 minutes.

Combine flour, baking powder and butter in a food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal.  Add the remaining ingredients.  Mix well.  Mixture will be wet.  Refrigerate at least one hour.

1 ½ hours before baking roll out the dough on a well-floured surface.  Cut into biscuits and cover with a clear towel.  Let rise for an hour.  Bake at 450F for 8-10 minutes in the middle of the oven until lightly brown.
