Angel Food Cake With Blackberry Sauce

ANGEL FOOD CAKE WITH BLACKBERRY-CASSISS SAUCE

I found an angel food cake recipe that's only 110 calories a slice. Of course I couldn't resist, but angel food cake by itself is a bit bland. So I made a zingy blackberry sauce that compliments it perfectly. Enjoy!

Angel food cake

1 and 1 / 2 cups confectioners' sugar, split into1 and 1 / 2 cups

1 cup cake flour, sifted

12 egg whites, room temperature

1 tsp. cream of tartar

Preheat oven to 350° F. Sift flour with 1 / 2 cup sugar. Beat whites in mixer until frothy. Add cream of tartar and beat until form soft peaks. Then add the remaining sugar in gradually until well incorporated. Fold the flour and sugar mixture carefully into the egg whites. Pour into an ungreased angel food pan. Bake 40 minutes. Cool. Slide a knife around the edges and invert.

Blackberry sauce

4 cups blackberries

2 / 3 cups sugar

1 / 4 cup créme de cassis (black current liqueur)

Bring all ingredients to a boil. Cool.
